Ministers for the Economy and the Sea and for Science, Technology and Higher Education visit the company that coordinates the Mobilising Agenda for microelectronics
The Minister for the Economy and the Sea, António Costa Silva, and the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, visited the company ATEP – Amkor Technology Portugal, located in Vila do Conde, on 17 March.
The news, published by the General Secretariat for the Economy, stressed that this visit was particularly important given that Amkor Technology Portugal is coordinating the Mobilising Agenda, as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, in the area of Microelectronics, with a total investment of more than 76 million euros, already contracted, which translates into 11 million euros for Research and Development activities.
Amkor Portugal, which specialises in semiconductor packaging, assembly and testing, supplies the global market, namely more than 250 companies worldwide, particularly in the telecommunications, automotive and security sectors.
The visit was particularly important for the government’s science, technology and higher education department, which is developing a microelectronics and semiconductor strategy with Spain, based on a memorandum of understanding signed at the Luso-Spanish Summit held in Viana do Castelo in November last year.
