The Microelectronics Agenda was present at the Public Presentation Session of the National Strategy for Semiconductors

The Microelectronics Agenda was present today at the Public Presentation Session of the National Strategy for Semiconductors, represented by ATEP – Amkor Technologies, Inova-Ria, Synopsys, INL, PCI – Creative Science Park Aveiro Region, PICadvanced and Fraunhofer Portugal, seven of the seventeen organizations that make up the Micro.electronics Agenda Consortium.

This session brought together representatives of government agencies, industry and sector experts to present and discuss the intervention axes of the National Strategy for Semiconductors, its alignment with the European Chips Act and the R&D&I funding opportunities that will be launched under the European Chips Joint Undertaking partnership, Key topics were also presented, such as the EU Chips Act Strategy, the Chips JU work programs and calls, opportunities for the national ecosystem and key challenges and actions relating to this sector, which is so present in all the devices we use today and is vital for many economies and the national security of countries and nations.

There was also a question and answer session, where it became clear the position and actions that Portugal is seeking to take in this sector, investing in the country’s development and training in the various steps that make up its value chain, namely R&D, Chip Design, Testing, Production, Recycling, as well as training the professionals who work in or may join the sector, among others.

It is intended that the National Semiconductor Strategy will have a very significant impact at national level and that it will bear fruit in the future. It was presented by @Diogo Vaz, from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and the Sea, the Foundation for Science and Technology and the National Innovation Agency.

The aim is to leverage the country’s excellence, positioning and productive capacity and build key partnerships to contribute constructively and continuously to meeting the sector’s needs.
