Yesterday’s Público newspaper reported on the significant increase in e-waste, as a result of the report “The Global e-Waste Register 2024”, produced by two United Nations institutions, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
According to the source, since 2010, the amount of electronic waste produced has increased by 2.3 million tonnes every year and the need to increase the recycling of these components is increasingly a priority.
In the Microelectronics Agenda, funded by PRR – Recover Portugal, we endeavour to contribute to filling the systemic gaps in the sector and, in this context, one of the strategic lines is precisely the ecological transition, through the development of processes for waste treatment, emissions reduction and the repair of electronic components.
