On November 2, a face-to-face meeting was held at the University of Coimbra of WP15 of the Microelectronics Agenda, which aims to develop a hybrid process for recycling valuable metals from waste electronic boards (PCBs). In attendance were participants from PCI – Creative Science Park – Aveiro Region, which is coordinating WP15, the University of Coimbra, the University of Aveiro and ATEP-Amkor Portugal. The project also includes other industrial participants such as HFA and TRC.
The hybrid process aims to recycle copper, gold and silver from PCBs (electronic boards) of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), which are currently recycled by European companies via pyrometallurgy. The aim of this project is to develop a hydrometallurgical process for recycling valuable metals that is technically and economically viable for transferring the technology to industry.
