PCI · Creative Science Park Aveiro Region promoted, last week, a Training Session dedicated to sustainability challenges, environmental responsibility, and the adoption of best practices within the technology and microelectronics industries, under the scope of the Microelectronics Agenda.
The initiative brought together professionals, experts, and industry representatives for a knowledge-sharing, reflection, and discussion session focused on the environmental and regulatory challenges currently impacting organizations, as well as the opportunities associated with implementing more sustainable practices.
The programme featured a panel of invited experts who contributed with different academic and business perspectives on the topic:
- Prof. Pedro Fonseca, Assistant Professor at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics (DETI), University of Aveiro;
- Prof. Paula Gomes, Assistant Professor at the Department of Environment and Planning, University of Aveiro;
- Cátia Machado, M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and author of the Master’s dissertation “Best Practices Manual for the Production of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and WEEE Recycling”;
- Dr. Marina Bastos, Quality, Environment and Innovation Coordinator at Exatronic.
Throughout the session, several topics were addressed, including sustainability in the technology industry, environmental management, the circular economy, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling, and the importance of adopting responsible practices to strengthen organizations’ competitiveness and compliance with current challenges.
The session provided an opportunity to deepen knowledge, follow emerging trends, and encourage reflection on the role of companies in building a more sustainable industry capable of meeting future environmental requirements.
