The second day of the 74th Electronic Components and Technology Conference (ECTC) and the first day of the exhibition were marked by strategic meetings with international exhibitors

During the second day of the ECTC, AIDA CCI established key contacts with various international partners, including a meeting with representatives from AMKOR, Christina Parsons and Scott Varga, which allowed existing cooperation to be deepened and new opportunities for collaboration to be explored for future editions of the conference. On the second day of the conference, there was also the opportunity to meet Piotr Mackowiak and Manuela Junghahnel  from FRAUNOHER IZM, a crucial meeting to present the Microelectronics Agenda and discuss possible participation in ECTC 2025, which will be held in Dallas.

The visit to the French company Yole, which specializes in market analysis and technology with a focus on semiconductors, was another highlight of the day. During the visit, the Aveiro Chamber of Commerce and Industry met Gabriela Pereira, a Portuguese employee who works remotely from Porto, where they talked about the potential of Portuguese companies in the chip design area and discussed European funding programs that could boost the growth of this sector in Portugal. On this day of the ECTC, Rachel Coker, from Binghamton University – NY, also presented the work carried out by the institution to bring companies closer to the microelectronics sector and emphasized the importance of developing projects in partnership with companies to find innovative solutions in new products, processes or materials.

During the day, contacts were also made with various service companies and raw material suppliers, including AMTECH (owned by Dave Bringuel and David Chavez) – which specializes in advanced packaging and assembly, Brewer Science (owned by Nathan Ayres) – a leader in the development of new generation materials and processes – and MicroCircuit Laboratories (owned by Rich Chairman) – which provides services for hermetic protection of low temperature packaging, design, development and prototyping. a provider of services for hermetic protection of low-temperature packaging, design, development and prototyping.

At the end of the day, AIDA CCI representatives also attended a session dedicated to effective practices for attracting, promoting and retaining a diverse workforce, which offered valuable insights into inclusive strategies that can be adopted by companies to foster a more diverse and inclusive work environment.

The second day of the ECTC was highly productive, allowing existing partnerships to be strengthened and new opportunities for collaboration and innovation in the microelectronics sector to be explored. AIDA CCI will continue to participate actively in the rest of the conference program, representing the Portuguese consortium of the Microelectronics Agenda.

The Microelectronics Agenda was created as part of the mobilizing agendas of the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan with the aim of strengthening the production and innovation capacity of the national semiconductor and microelectronics industry. It involves a group of 17 partners and seeks to help position Portugal at the forefront of the semiconductor management, production, distribution and recycling market, capable of supplying Europe and other countries worldwide.

The 25 new products, processes and services resulting from the Agenda aim to transform the microelectronics sector and contribute to its resilience, competitiveness and ecological sustainability, and will enable the Portuguese ecosystem to monitor and anticipate the sector’s needs.

The “Microelectronics Agenda” project runs from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024 and is co-financed on a non-repayable basis for a total eligible amount of 6.749,3749.13 by the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan through Next Generation EU.
