The event took place in Lyon, France, with around 2,500 international exhibitors from various industrial sectors taking part
AIDA – Aveiro Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the Global Industrie 2025 fair in Lyon, France, from March 11 to 14, with the aim of expanding the network of contacts of the members of the Microelectronics Agenda and promoting the products, processes and services (PPS) developed under the Portuguese project.
With a particular focus on robotics, the AIDA JRC representatives presented the PPS of the members of the national consortium to some of the most interesting entities currently operating in this area, such as the multinational ABB. “I’m really surprised by the Portuguese capacity. I’m curious to find out more about some of the products they’re making,” said Jérôme Trichon, ABB’s representative at the fair. Contacts were also made with Inovance, RLS, Norcan, Siemens, Universal Robotics and Productys.
Nilda Parreira, from the International Relations Office of the AIDA JRC, who was present at the fair, stressed the strategic importance of the work carried out in Portugal in the field of semiconductors and microelectronics: “We are living through a decisive moment for innovation and competitiveness in the sector, and Portuguese microelectronics is a fundamental pillar in building a more intelligent and efficient future.”
Global Industrie is the key trade fair in France that brings together representatives of the entire international industry, and is therefore a strategic event for forging partnerships and exchanging knowledge. It is also a meeting point for the presentation of advanced technologies and new solutions for various sectors of industry. This year’s Global Industrie trade fair brought together around 2,500 exhibitors and more than 3,500 machines in a total area of 100,000 m2.
The Microelectronics Agenda was created as part of the mobilizing agendas of the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan with the aim of strengthening the production and innovation capacity of the national semiconductor and microelectronics industry, in line with the European strategy of the Chips Act. It involves a group of 17 partners and seeks to help position Portugal at the forefront of the market for the design, production, distribution and recycling of semiconductors and microelectronics, capable of supplying Europe and other countries worldwide.
The 25 new products, processes and services resulting from the Agenda aim to transform the microelectronics sector and contribute to its resilience, competitiveness and ecological sustainability, and will enable the Portuguese ecosystem to monitor and anticipate the sector’s needs.
The Microelectronics Agenda has a total eligible budget of €67,493,749.13, of which €30,048,411.91 is funded by the NextGenerationEU initiative. With the completion of the project scheduled for June 30, 2025, Portugal intends to establish itself as a leader in the global semiconductor sector, having already executed more than 60% of the budget and made significant progress in product development, sustainability and workforce training.
