At the closing of the 75th edition of the ECTC – Electronic Components and Technology Conference, the Microelectronics Agenda, represented by AIDA CCI, once again stood out as a strategic instrument for positioning Portugal within the global semiconductor value chain.
The final day of the conference featured a strong technical focus, highlighting areas that directly align with the Agenda’s goals, particularly heterogeneous integration, advanced substrates, hybrid bonding, and new interconnect solutions—critical themes for the national development of Packaging & Test capabilities.
Among the most relevant sessions were:
🔹 “Advanced Substrate Technologies – Organic, Embedding and Glass”
A session dedicated to innovation in substrate technologies—one of the pillars of future generations of electronic circuits—covering advanced materials and the integration of new functionalities.
🔹 “Thermal Management and Material Solutions for High-Performance 2.5D and 3D Packaging”
Key discussions on thermal and material innovations that will enable the development of higher-density, higher-performance devices, with direct impact on industries such as automotive, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence.
🔹 “Innovative Interconnects and Through Via Technology for 3D Packaging”
Presentations focused on miniaturization, reliability, and the efficient integration of electronic components—strategic priorities for members of the Agenda.
🔹 “Modeling Driven Packaging and Process Advancements”
An approach centered on process modeling and design optimization, highly relevant to the transition from R&D to industrial-scale production.
These sessions reinforced the need to position the Microelectronics Agenda not only as a national technology capacity-building initiative, but also as a platform connecting advanced knowledge, industry, and global supply chains.
The Microelectronics Agenda, supported by Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the European Union’s NextGenerationEU funds, brings together leading companies and R&D centers working daily to secure the future of microelectronics in Portugal, driving applied innovation, industrial investment, and internationalization of the sector.
“The presence of the Microelectronics Agenda at ECTC 2025 is a clear sign of the growing maturity of the Portuguese ecosystem and its ability to engage with global industry leaders. The future lies in specialization in areas such as packaging, advanced substrates, and 3D interconnects—Portugal has here a strategic opportunity it cannot afford to miss,” emphasizes Elisabete Rita, Director General of AIDA CCI.
Participation in one of the world’s leading technical events further strengthens the Agenda’s ambition to position Portugal as a competitive and sustainable destination for investment and development in semiconductors and related technologies.
The Microelectronics Agenda benefits from a total eligible budget of €67,493,749.21, of which €30,048,411.91 is funded by the NextGenerationEU initiative. With project completion expected by June 30, 2025, Portugal aims to establish itself as a global leader in the semiconductor sector, having already achieved significant progress in product and process development, sustainability, and workforce training.
