The Microelectronics Agenda, which already has an implementation rate of over 40%, will be presented at the Automotive Summit 2023.
The event will take place at the Meliá Ria hotel in Aveiro on Wednesday, November 15.
The Microelectronics Agenda, created as part of the mobilizing agendas of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), involves a group of 17 partners and seeks to help position the country in the semiconductor management, production, distribution and recycling market, strengthening the country’s production capacity to supply Europe and other countries on a global scale. It is aligned with the European Union’s semiconductor initiatives, aiming to unlock the national potential of the semiconductor industry and contribute to increasing the resilience of the European value chain.
The Consortium aims to develop 25 products, processes and services that will help put Portugal on the European map of the semiconductor industry and involves 21 workpackages, small collaborative projects designed and structured to meet the objectives and goals proposed by the consortium members, in order to promote a national response to the systemic failures inherent in the European sector.
Microelectronics plays a vital role in the automotive industry and other industries worldwide and its impact on the modern world is immense. The microelectronics sector has faced difficulties in accessing and making components and systems available at European level, whether due to the impact of geopolitical tensions, scarcity of resources or the breakdown of distribution and production chains caused by the pandemic, which has highlighted the imbalance in the value chain, highly concentrated in Asia. The need for Europe to regain greater autonomy in this sector, which is so influential and structural to the energy and digital transition, has been evident.
