Microelectronics Agenda Strengthens Portugal’s Strategic Position at ECTC 2025

On the third day of the 75th edition of the Electronic Components and Technology Conference (ECTC), held at the Gaylord Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, AIDA CCI, representing the Microelectronics Agenda, highlighted Portugal as a technology hub within the global semiconductor value chain. The day was marked by high-impact technical sessions and active participation in the international exhibition.

The day began with the Plenary Session “Emerging Advanced Power Delivery for the AI Computing Era,” focused on the energy challenges of AI-based computing systems. Experts from companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, AMD, TSMC, and ASE Global discussed advanced power delivery solutions, efficient integration into silicon devices, and system technology co-optimization (STCO).

Throughout the day, AIDA CCI, at the exhibition space, promoted Portugal as a center of excellence in microelectronics in Europe, reinforcing its integration into the global semiconductor value chain. Key connections were established with internationally renowned companies, including Amkor Technology—the parent company of AMKOR Portugal and leader of the Microelectronics Agenda—as well as Canon USA, Elspes, Neocera Magna, Sigray, ONDC International, XTPL SA, Apple Inc., TUDelft, Lintec of America, Plasmatreat, Promex, Hana Micron, Lam Research, and TDK, among others, all notable in fields such as materials science, semiconductors, surface technologies, and advanced electronics.

The day’s technical sessions addressed critical topics for the advancement of microelectronics, including heterogeneous integration, hybrid bonding, high-density substrates, thermal management, and solutions for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing applications. Standout presentations focused on technologies such as fan-out wafer-level packaging (FOWLP), glass and polymer interposers, and innovative chip-to-wafer and wafer-to-wafer bonding methods. These discussions showcased the cutting-edge nature of microelectronics research and its direct impact on industrial innovation.

The participation of the Microelectronics Agenda at ECTC 2025 underscores Portugal’s commitment to leadership and innovation in the microelectronics sector, consolidating strategic partnerships and promoting national technological excellence on the international stage.

The Microelectronics Agenda benefits from a total eligible budget of €67,493,749.21, of which €30,048,411.91 is funded by the NextGenerationEU initiative. With the project scheduled for completion by June 30, 2025, Portugal aims to establish itself as a global leader in the semiconductor sector, having already executed over 60% of the budget and made significant progress in product development, sustainability, and workforce training.
